After the events of the Thanos Imperative, I'd go in to my local comic book store, buy my regular Marvel comics, waiting for news of Rich, knowing that eventually they had to bring him back. I even got excited when I heard Nino was coming, thinking that this was the start of Rich's return...until I found out that Nino meant no Rich. Can't criticize the character or the book, because I've never read it.
I've mentioned it before, I'm in my 40's, and normally my comic book purchases were around $40 a week. Right now, my comic book reading is done on message boards, waiting on word of Rich's return. It has now become a matter of principle. So I've gone cold turkey on my comic purchases. If Marvel won't accommodate me as a fan, and are aiming at younger audiences with Nino, then I hope that audience's money is worth more than mine.
As another poster normally signs off with, "Long Live Richard Rider".

: I think that one of the scheduled but
: unannounced movies between now and 2028 is a
: NINO kiddie movie and that explains why NINO
: is being pushed so hard (and why Rich won't
: be coming back anytime soon unless NINO
: fails miserably - so once again Rider fans -
: quit buying NINO!).
:
: I've called Brevoort a politician before and
: that's what he is (to put it kindly - I
: could think of less kind descriptors).
: He'll say or do anything to sell a comic
: book and defend the company. Also, he's
: pretty clear about keeping the Nova concepts
: stuck in the goofy teen screw-up rut.
: That's how he thinks "Nova" works
: best. He's totally wrong (as usual) and this
: stems from him having been at Marvel too
: long. He needs to move on to something
: else. You'd think he'd get the message when
: he keeps getting passed over for EIC in
: favor of guys who've been there a couple
: years vs him being there something like 30
: years.
:
: I think the problem is Sam - along with
: Brevoort, Alonso, Loeb, and Bendis. Sam is a
: bad character. It's like comparing Lost in
: Space to Star Trek. Sam is "Lost in
: Space" - silly, campy, juvenile,
: intelligence-insulting. Nova Volume IV was
: like Star Trek - serious, adult-oriented,
: respectful of the source material, played
: straight, talks up to the fans. Brevoort,
: Alonso, Loeb, Bendis don't understand cosmic
: and don't even really like it. They
: understand superhero fantasy. Cosmic is
: something different than that. If done well,
: I would call it super-heroic para-military
: science-fiction not necessarily directly
: tied to Earth. Their idea is to just put
: Earth-based and Earth-obsessed superheroes
: in space every once in awhile and call it
: cosmic. Plus - they wanted to cash in on the
: big bucks from the GotG movie - and have a
: kiddie movie franchise with NINO. That's
: their motivation.
:
: I agree that Duggan writes NINO better than
: Loeb and Wells - but it's like putting
: lipstick on a pig. NINO is just a dumb
: idea. It's child soldier-ing. So it's not
: just dumb, it's immoral. There's really
: nothing more that can be done with it than
: what they're doing. Silly, campy, totally
: implausible teen antics and power fantasies.
: It deserves to fail - especially when much
: better books (Nova Volume IV, GotG Volume
: II, Agents of Atlas Volume I, Incredible
: Hercules, Young Allies, SWORD, etc. were
: NEVER given this type life support and
: marketing. If NINO can't succeed despite
: all this hype, it tells you something about
: NINO as a concept. Most comic readers have
: outgrown the silly juvenile nonsense that is
: NINO.

: I saw your message on the cbr forum(i'm
: mononokifool there) and I have to agree with
: you. I really don't understand the angle
: they are trying to play Sam. I think that
: maybe they are really confused with what to
: do with Sam since his book is failing so
: damn hard and they were expecting a huge
: readership with how hard they were pushing
: the character. So they are just going all
: over the place with him.

: So the latest news down the pipe in the Saga
: of "Sam Alexander" the new version
: of Nova is that he has been made a Disney
: character in the Infinite series. Sam has
: also had a longstanding role on the Disney
: XD cartoon "Ultimate Spiderman" as
: we all know and is being pimped out more and
: more this summer by Marvel/ Disney. This new
: nova is an "all hands on deck"
: multi tiered plan to prop up a 'commodity'
: in the family friendly Disney/Marvel world.
:
: So is it not a bit of hypocrisy that Sam
: Alexander is playing a pivotal role in the
: huge Marvel Summer Event Original Sin? This
: is the event that is centered off a giant
: humanoid alien getting his eyes gouged out
: and various people fondling and carrying
: around detached body organs? Is this also
: the event that by the third issue featured a
: main iconic marvel super hero getting
: violently decapitated by a former teen
: sidekick? I wonder how Disney feels about
: this?Family Friendly fare?
:
: An upcoming solicit for Nova has a picture
: of a black nova (presumably Jesse) sitting
: down at the dinner table with blood
: splattered all over his hands and arms..how
: pleasant and family friendly!
: I've argued that Sam is not really the
: problem, and Duggan is writing a solid book
: ..I stand by that.
:
: But it is just so hard to forget that Rich
: was never given any of this stuff...and then
: this hypocrisy is mind baffling.
:
: Does Tom B actually think , as a sane and
: smart man, as a person who basis any sort of
: decsion making off actual data , that Rich
: Rider was EVER given the same opportunities
: as Sam? He clearly did not.
:
: Look at this cover man:

:
: As much as it pains me, because it is great
: art there, it makes me sick knowing that
: should be Rich Rider!! He deserved to be
: there. I just can't avoid all these wrongs
: and hypocrisy tainting this new marvel
: cosmic stuff. It's rough because Duggan's a
: good writer and writing a good comic...and
: the art has been very good.
:
: But for Rider fans, we only get this :
