Also, I can understand the concept of what Marvel has done by introducing NiNo to us. I'm guessing that in the early 70's Spider-Man had been around for a decade already, and Marvel wanted to catch lightning in a bottle all over again with the every-man teen hero. But instead of replacing Peter with an all new Spider-Man, they created Richard Rider, Nova. I'm sure this was the case many times since with other new, 'younger' characters, such as Darkhawk. So if Marvel felt this need once again, why was it that this time they chose to 'reimagine' an already existing character?
Sounds so much like Green Lantern. John Stewart, Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner, etc, but at least Hal Jordan is back.
I think I may have said this before...I haven't bought a comic book in quite some time now. And if Marvel is willing to trade my money for someone who may or may not want to start reading comic books because of NiNo, then that is their choice.
Ha! This sounds so dramatic, but keep up the great debates and comments on this board. It has been, and may continue to be, my only connection to the comic book world.
Long Live Richard Rider.

: No personal problem from me either. And as
: I've said many times before - if I can't
: have NINO gone forever, I'd settle for a
: Rich-starring book separate from NINO and
: then I'd just ignore NINO. I think that an
: unlikely scenario given the attitude of
: Brevoort and his buddies who've already said
: it's NINO or nothing - and I take them at
: their word. Please be clear - that's not me
: saying that - that's the real decision
: makers at Marvel saying it's NINO or no
: "Nova" at all. I think they
: rightly believe that a Rich-starring book
: would overshadow and sink NINO - or that
: they'd have 2 books selling about the same -
: so they're not going to do it concurrently.
: They're just going to keep pushing NINO
: until it costs them more to produce NINO
: than they recoup from sales. I say call
: their bluff and choose nothing - no
: "Nova" at all. Let NINO fail.
: Let the GotG movie change their mind just
: like Avengers changed their mind about
: Thanos. When the GotG movie is a raging
: success, they'll then scramble to re-boot
: Rider Nova.

: For the record I don't have anything
: personal
: - that'll never change - I'm not that kind
: of person and yes I do appreciate the time
: you backed me up against Editor Steven
: Wacker who lets face it is ultimately the
: catalyst of all the angst that has divided
: the Nova fan base. But what I am trying to
: say and you choose to ignore is that just
: like GL with our Hal Jordans and Kyle Rayers
: there is no reason the same can apply to our
: own concept - if it was handled a lot better
: that it has. Nova could have had a franchise
: like GL. Could still if both sides of the
: fan base stand united and everyone gets what
: they want. Regarding NMB - all I want as a
: Nova fan here is just discuss Nova as a
: concept and as a fan - not make every single
: thread into a bloody war fest! Okay - if
: after GOTG 19 comes out and we get the worse
: care scenario - fine; you can call us all
: out and tell us "I told you so"
: and even i will hang my head in shame BUT
: I'm not going to treat any Nova fan - be
: they follow Sam - with the same brash
: attitude that Garthan Saal would mate. You
: have a right to your opinions - and yes
: sometimes I agree with them just as
: occasionally I disagree too. But nothing
: personal but can we at least have one Nova
: forum online where fans can just talk Nova -
: whoever is wearing the bucket - and leave it
: at that. For that reason I'll no longer be
: posting to CBN as far as Nova goes until
: after September - if at all - I think I need
: a time out but I hope to still do Who
: reviews for the new series if Editorial
: chooses to let me do those to take my mind
: off the brawling!

: Daz - that guy just admitted he deliberately
: wrote the message to antagonize me. You
: seem to have ignored that part. Sorry you
: seem to have a problem with me lately - but
: I won't apologize for defending myself or my
: position on any particular topic - or for
: vigorously advocating for a particular
: position. That's not in my nature to be a
: passive apologist. And I've read a few of
: your outraged comments back to Wacker in the
: day. And I came to your defense against
: Wacker more than once over at CBR. I know
: you didn't ask me to, but I did anyway as I
: would for any true Rider Nova fan. Without
: the vigorous opposition to NINO, Marvel
: would blithely continue to do what they're
: doing and reach the wrong conclusions when
: NINO ultimately fails. Sorry it makes you
: uncomfortable, but the Neville Chamberlain
: approach never works. Vigorous opposition
: makes an impact.

: And this to me just proves how divided the
: Nova fan base is becoming. That's is what
: makes it really sad to see fans of the same
: character - be it Sam or Rich, bickering
: like school kids. This should be a Nova
: message board to share our love and support
: for Nova - us oldies share how we grew up
: with the character and share our
: appreciation to the new generation who are
: taking up an interest. The guy just shared a
: link to this board for preview art for
: fellow fans to look at which I was happy to
: share. We'll all make out minds up after
: September that I am sure- till them we
: should be united in our support for
: "our character" yet T all you do
: is antagonize. If you want a united front -
: practice it.

: I think it is funny that it bothers you so
: much that you would make a catty,
: passive-aggressive dig at me knowing that I
: wouldn't let it stand. And now you get your
: little girl panties in a wad when I talk
: back to you in kind when you knew I would in
: the first place. Call me whatever you like
: - it matters not to me. Apparently you
: don't check FB much, because there's a lot
: more visitors there than on CBN threads and
: they overwhelmingly agree with me. I think
: your amateur diagnoses and recommendations
: are hilarious. I have many, many interests,
: an extremely busy and successful career, and
: probably accomplish more before noon than
: you do all day. Comics are a small part of
: my interests. I'll not apologize for taking
: a leadership position in the anti-NINO
: faction and I think that poor writing, poor
: concept, (most importantly) a small part in
: the GotG movie, and (to a small extent)
: efforts of myself and others will eventually
: lead to the demise of NINO and the return of
: RR. Now go back and watch some more Dr.
: Phil, TSO.

: My original message was directed at you.
: I've followed the boards on cosmic and cbr
: and I see your immature prattling and your
: obsessiveness and it's sad. You need some
: help. Just look at your reply to me here.
: It's arrogant, condescending and it's a
: "my way or the highway" attitude.
: It's no wonder you keep getting banned. On
: cosmic you are surrounded by like minded
: individuals and reading the threads one
: message at a time over the last few years (I
: follow everything Rich Rider related online)
: you have really made this obsession of yours
: the new normal for yourself. IT IS NOT
: NORMAL BEHAVIOUR and again, you need help.
: It's a comic book character and you act like
: it's the end of the world. Your obsession is
: driving people to think that all Nova fans
: are like you. We are not. We aren't happy
: Rich isn't around but we have lives, other
: likes and other passions as well.
:
: There's nothing sanctimonious about what I
: said. Quite the opposite. It's a normal,
: healthy response to a situation I'm unhappy
: about. You are sanctimonious in your
: obsession and hatred of staffers at Marvel.
: Timelord you posted on Cosmic that your
: reply to me will probably get you banned
: from here. Why would that be? A normal give
: and take conversation between adults
: shouldn't result in a ban or even worrying
: about a ban. You can have your opinion. I'm
: not dissuading you from it, but just
: pointing out that your posts to me as a Nova
: fan seem a bit scary. Imagine how they look
: to outsiders who don't share the same
: passion for the character.
:
: Your voice is not the voice of the true Rich
: Rider fans. Your just the most obnoxious and
: the loudest and the shame of the rest of us
: fans. The rest of us are like me. We hope to
: see him back and we know Marvel knows we
: feel this way. We're not thrilled with the
: new Kid Nova but Marvel is trying something
: different to see if it could work where
: previous Nova comics have failed before.
: Judging from the numbers released every
: month (accurate or not is up for debate
: since I don't think it counts digital copies
: sold) the new direction isn't doing the
: greatest but we'll enough for Marvel to hold
: out on pulling the plug. Marvel is a
: business. They're looking for ways to keep
: the doors open and put money in their
: pockets. Regardless of whether Annihilation
: and Nova vol. 4 was awesome or not, it
: didn't sell we'll enough to warrant keeping
: Rich around in a monthly. Sure he was the
: most popular character in New Warriors which
: is why they have it a shot to have his own
: comic again not only once but 3 more times.
: Each time failed.
:
: Wait and see what happens. Maybe Rich will
: be back someday. Maybe he won't. If they
: kill him off the answer for me is simple. My
: comic buying days are over. Even if they
: bring him back in the future, it won't
: change that. I'm at a crossroads here and I
: make no qualms about it and no threats. It
: is what it is.
:
: It's make believe. It's a comic book
: character who ISN'T REAL. That character is
: owned by Marvel, who in turn is owned by
: Disney now. They can do whatever they like
: to that character. You didn't create him,
: you don't own him and you have no rights to
: determine the outcome of his stories. You're
: not on the creative team. We pretty much all
: want Rich back here, but not the way you're
: going about things. I'm done talking to you.
: You're just a fan who's crossed the line
: into obsession. Again, please get some help
: before you cross a line that can't be
: uncrossed.

: My last op-ed article about the issue got
: hundreds of likes on facebook, hundreds of
: hits on CBN, and numerous shares on other
: sites. Same for the other reviews/op-eds.
: The comic world is incredibly small. Only a
: few hundred-thousand buyers. If not for the
: movies, the comics would be on their last
: legs. With such a small pool of buyers,
: Marvel notices things like my op-eds and the
: number of supporters of them; and they have
: alluded to them in published pieces. They
: definitely don't like me - but protest
: leaders are seldom liked by those they are
: protesting against. I don't think that's
: generalized to Rich fans in general because
: Marvel likes anybody who might buy their
: products and with the exception of Wacker
: and Brevoort - nobody at Marvel has told me
: to stop spending my money on Marvel products
: or invited Rich Rider fans to stop buying
: either. So seriously - save the sanctimony
: and scolding for someone who cares. I've
: done more to facilitate Rich's return by
: calling attention to the fact that there's a
: large portion of customers out there who are
: dissatisfied with Marvel's treatment of
: Rider Nova and his fans than all the
: naysayers, collaborators, and sanctimonious
: finger-waggers combined - who've done little
: but buy NINO illogically thinking that by
: buying NINO somehow they'll get Rich back,
: complain on a forum or two, or just shrug
: their shoulders and give up. Any successful
: protest movement has to make enough noise to
: call attention to the issue. And
: "NINO" (a term I proudly created)
: has entered the popular lexicon as a protest
: term. So when NINO finally fails, Marvel
: won't be able to say they don't know why.
:
: I do commend you for voting with your
: dollars and I hope others will follow you in
: doing the same - because considering the
: art and commentary on your link, it looks
: like Bendis is getting ready to flip us the
: bird once again. If he does, everyone still
: buying NINO and NeWINO needs to retaliate by
: boycotting both so both will be pushed into
: cancellation. I'll make sure Marvel knows
: that we did it to punish them.

: They got the star wrong on Rich's helmet,
: but otherwise, it looks great! Looks like
: we're going to finally get the (cannon)
: story of what happened to Rich. I'll buy it
: to show my support for the character, but
: I've got a feeling GOTG #18 and #19 will be
: the last 2 Marvel comics I'll be buying.
:
: Unlike a few of you who've been acting like
: children over this (you know who you are, no
: names mentioned here) and made all of us
: Rich fans look bad in the process, I said my
: piece (which was short and sweet) to Tom
: once and he knows there's another +1 out
: there, and I'm letting it go at that.
:
: Richard Rider's Nova has been the gateway
: comic for me into comic book shops. It's
: not the first time I've stopped giving money
: to Marvel, but if the character is offed,
: then this will be my final farewell. Time
: to let the character and stories and the
: company go and move on to other escapisms
: for when I want to relax. It was a fun ride
: while it lasted. The new kid Nova just
: doesn't interest me. It's not the same. I
: think it was Rich that I identified with
: more than the Nova persona. Here's hoping
: I'm wrong, but everything leading up to here
: that I could find with the exception of one
: comment when someone asked when Rich would
: be back and the answer was, What makes you
: think he isn't already? point to the fact
: he's dead. Being an Original Sin tie in
: also means something really bad happened.
: Seeing as it's Peter's original sin, and not
: Rich's, it doesn't take a rocket scientist
: to figure it out.
