I was happy with the issue as well and definitely recommend adding it to your Nova collection; I'm looking forward to the next two issues. Bendis did seem to be writing a somewhat younger, less war-weary Rich, which is a contrast to the one we've seen since Annihilation. That said, the change is not unwelcome, and even supported by a slight shift in tone at the very end of the Thanos Imperative; Rich and Pete seem almost frivolous as they charge headlong toward certain death, and this tone is carried over here.
Aside from a few missed opportunities (at one point Rich says "geez" when a "blue blazes!" would have fit perfectly), I was actually pleased and impressed with the way that Bendis wrote Rich.
Drax didn't read quite right to me, but then again he was plagued with this throughout TTI and even now in the new GotG run. Overall I think he's just a difficult character to write for. This might be irksome to someone on the Drax The Destroyer message boards, but to me it's a minor (and chronic) issue.
I completely agree with everyone who has praised McGuinness's art and the accompanying coloring; really fantastic. The art in this comic reminded me why 10 year old TJ liked comics in the first place, and it was a real joy to look through. there's several great pages in there that any Nova fan would be happy to have a poster of in their collection.
Finally, I thought it was completely unexpected and pretty ingenious to have them find the Cancer-verse version of the Worldmind! And the revelation about Sam being the sole-surviving member of the Cancer-verse Nova Corps? Mind=Blown. Totally explained what Pheonix-cyclops was talking about in AvX.
Nah I'm just messing with you guys. Like we said, no spoilers.

: I picked up GOTG #18 today and found a Legends
: Nova as well, so it was a pretty good day.
:
: No spoilers, but whoever wrote that the
: story wasn's that good, but the art was nice
: was way off in my books. I enjoyed the
: story that BMB has started to craft, even if
: I might not like how it turns out. If
: you're a fan, IMO you're doing yourself a
: disservice if you don't pick it up.
:
: Can't wait until next month to pick up GOTG
: #19! It's kind of fun to have something to
: look forward to each month again.
