That old Starlord outfit is just so awesome. Even with the changes it was nice to see Rich's Nova Prime suit again. That design is just too cool.

:
: Good take, lio-- and this is not intended as
: a rip on you, but my opinion differs a bit.
:
: I am not a fan of BMB... In general, I
: think his take on characters is very
: one-dimensional, and I can always tell when
: I'm reading a BMB written book... It's like
: listening to Joss Wheedon dialogue-- you
: know he wrote it when you hear it; but
: whereas I like Joss Wheedon dialogue, BMB's
: writing grates on me... It's probably the
: single most disappointing thing for me about
: the new Guardians series, and I have to say,
: this issue is no different for me...
:
: It was great to see Rich back, and
: Star-Lord's '08 GOG uniform is awesome, but
: the inter-play between Nova and Star-Lord
: fell a little flat for me-- and I think it's
: because of how I feel about BMB writing
: characters... All I can think of is his
: Peter Parker from Ultimate Spider-Man
: (which, ironically, I liked, but it worked
: for a young Peter Parker...)
:
: Gamora's intro seemed really superfluous,
: and kind of had me scratching my head, and I
: was never really clear on where the story
: was heading-- Star-Lord's lack of confidence
: in using the cosmic cube...? Found it
: really tough to buy given how he and Nova
: became such heavy hitters by the time Thanos
: Imperative rolled around. Again, it struck
: me as standard BMB-type characterization.
: Or maybe I just really miss DNA writing the
: characters.
:
: Anyhow, I mine must be the minority opinion
: on Bendis given how much confidence Marvel
: has in him considering the amount that he
: writes.
:
: All in all, though-- I'd recommend picking
: up this complete arc. Nova's return has
: been a long time coming, and for that fact
: alone, I can look past the writing. And I'm
: interested to see how it turns out.

: First off, let's talk the bad and get that
: out
: of the way.
:
: Rich's Nova Prime uniform has inexplicably
: changed. The starburst on the helmet is
: curved like Sam's and the starburst on his
: back is missing. The lines down his legs
: are there in the artwork, but the colorist
: missed them and colored them blue instead of
: yellow.
:
: Rich's last name is spelled
: "Ryder" through the book. I've
: seen a lot of people get upset about this,
: but TBH, it's not the first time it's been
: spelled this way, so it doesn't bug me too
: much. (If you want an example of it
: happening before, check out ROM #24, which
: was the last time RR was heard from until NW
: started up years later.)
:
: The art was generally nice, but some of the
: panels just had mediocre artwork with some
: awkwardly positioned or lazy poses. (Like
: the panel of Rich blasting the Cancerverse
: bugs. That could have been waaaaay more
: dynamic, instead it just looks off.) That
: said, there were also some terrific panels
: in there too!
:
: Now for the good:
:
: The story was good and it moved along at a
: pace I would expect for a 3 issue arc. BMB
: does a good job of picking up where the
: story left off. Sure there are a few
: inconsistencies, but that always happens
: when a story gets picked up years later.
: They all can be pretty easily explained away
: so nothing rips older readers out of it.
: Besides, to go into detail on every single
: thing would take away from the pacing of the
: story and I think that extra exposition
: would have detracted from the story and not
: added to it. The pacing of the story kept
: moving me forward, and that was a good
: thing.
:
: I liked the back and forth between Rich and
: Peter. BMB did a great job nailing their
: comradery.
:
: Rich gave and took about as good as I
: would've expected. He's being shown as
: powerful as he is.
:
: Someone mentioned he's being written as a
: younger version of Rich. I didn't think so.
: Re-read the last 10 issues of Nova and
: Thanos Imperative. From the bit of dialogue
: BMB gave Rich, I think he nailed him spot on
: from where we last saw him.
:
: Great action sequences. Seeing Rich taking
: on Thanos and holding his own was awesome.
:
: What matters the most to me is just this...
:
: I enjoyed the story from start to finish. I
: had fun reading it and don't regret buying
: it. The key word there for me is
: "fun". I'm also looking forward
: to next month and picking up GOTG #19, even
: though I'm dreading what might happen. Do I
: think GOTG #18 is a worth chapter in the RR
: Nova storyline? Absolutely. When a story
: is fun to read and you look forward to the
: next chapter, then that's all you can ask
: for!
:
: I'd recommend picking it up and reading it.
: You won't get all the answers about what
: happened to Rich, but honestly, would you
: really want that in a single issue anyway?
: Can't say I do...
