Speaking of heroes, I have been a military brat as a kid and always looked up to many in the military as my heroes growing up. Even as a former active duty and reserve military guy, there were people that I looked up to, admired, respected. There is a saying in the US Navy SEAL community: "Earn Your Trident Everyday." You must continue to earn the right to wear the coveted Trident everyday, be that humble "silent professional", respect those who have gone before you, and most important of all, do not embarass the SEAL Team Brotherhood.
It pained me to do so and even hurt my wallet but I tried to give Black Nova a chance with a couple of issues, total of 7. The "product" was just not for me. Does not live up to the Nova Corps Legacy, no matter what band aid they slap on the wound.
I drew Black Nova once, before Point One came out. I took a stand to not draw any more Black Nova Jr fan art after being very disappointed with the first 12 issues. "Nova" #14, supposedly featuring Rich in a flashback story told by BRB about hier first meeting was the last Black Nova comic I bought. Whether fan art or by request, I refused to draw any sketch card or commission of Black Nova: Sam Alexander. The extra money I could get drawing Sam Alexadner could come in handy but I refused to do so on principle.
Again, I dislike the division between Classic Nova and Black Nova/USM 'Nova' fans. I do not particularly enjoy being negative with fans but will continue to be negative about Sam Alexander. I do so every time I enter a LCS by wearing my royal blue "The Man Called Nova" shirt every chance I get. People will ask me about my opinions on Alexander...I proudly point to the Classic Nova graphic on my shirt and give a big thumbs down about Sam.
: I really like the concept of "taking a
: stand" for Rider. We need more folks to
: take up the call.
: I checked out Sam, I gave him a fair shake,
: I bought and paid for nearly 19 issues (I
: skipped some of the Wells stuff)
: Sam has been observed, documented and
: rejected by me. And now I'm just still sad
: that Rich Rider is left for dead.
: Nova Corps don't leave nobody behind...lets
: take a stand for Rich.

: Sorry to hear. I will remain very negative
: about Sam Alexander and will continue to be
: so towards the character. I dislike being
: negative to Black Nova fans and USM
: "Nova" fans but I can not just
: stand idly by while Richard Rider gets the
: terrible disrespectful dismissal treatment
: from Marvel Comics, Marvel Animation, and
: even Marvel Studios. I am taking a stand for
: the Richard Rider character. Call it
: "extremist" or what have you but I
: do not see it that way. I am a US Navy
: veteran and I know what
: "extremism" is. I may not be as
: big a Marvel Cosmic fan as those in Cosmic
: Book News but even I can see and agree that
: what passes as "Marvel Cosmic"
: today is inferior to the work what has been
: done before. Its more about quantity and
: teenage high school popularity contests and
: sacrificing quality and setting standards.
: It is good that Richard Rider is featured in
: your 619 fan fiction and I understand having
: fan art of Sam Alexander as part of the Nova
: Prime DA as well as here on NPP. The Black
: Novas were a good concept but IMHO not
: necessary in Earth-616. Perhaps someday I
: will come to appreciate Sam Alexander but
: that depends what Marvel does with Rich,
: Worldmind, MCU, etc. I am thinking about
: doing some fan art of some Black Novas but
: nothing on Sam.

: Hey all. As of today I have to sadly
: that due to personal disagreements with
: Cosmic Book News and the site's admin -
: Nova619 will no longer be hosted there. Its
: a real shame that the owners of a site that
: professes to be a haven for Marvel Cosmic
: enthusiasts and fans for Rich Rider chooses
: to be so selective and negative when folks
: choose to support other fan sites that do
: their utmost to support great characters
: like Rich Rider. Fear not - Nova619 will be
: hosted at Nova Prime Page and my own Nova
: Prime DA group so for 619 fans look out for
: the Halloween Special in October!
