I think you made the same point as many other Nova fans across the web have; BMB simply did not do his homework and research to do this so called important arc that he "held onto" as per an Origin Sin tie in justice.
Too many errors in plot and continuity - not that BMB ever chooses to adhere to any continuity - even his own - really made this a missed opportunity. But overall lets keep open minded on one positive - and that is yes there is no body.
Having Rich transformed into a pure Nova Force entity and acting as a gateway to the Cancerverse or even being the "source" of the Nova Force that could be used by the Black Novas - does like Wally West and the Speed Force leave him in a limbo that another far more talented and better suited Nova writer can use and retcon and bring him back into the MU proper. In some ways BMB's own hap-hazard blunders such as Age of Ultron make it feasible with the cracks in spacetime for Rich to be summoned or whatever to a future point in the 616 timestream - such as Guardians 3000 - I mean would be it cool for Abnett to role reverse his Vance Astro scenario and bring Rich into the future?
I know this issue will cause a lot of discussion and angst for many Rider fans - I myself have decided to drop GOTG from my pull list after this one and add Guardians 3000 as a replacement and current NovaJr continues to really grate me - but with many fans supporting NPP to continue I think by far we'll ride out this limbo period as we've gone though every other - I should know as I've been a fan for 35 years so seen it all.
And hey up - there's Nova619 to read for your Rich fix.
For others - do feel free to post your views on GOTG 20 and do have your say on the pools before the close date.

: No body. that's good enough for me. Not having
: a body isn't just an open door for another
: writer to bring the character back; it's
: practically an invitation. I hate that we
: have to wait though...
:
: My reactions to the whole event:
: The Good: Great to see Nova in action again.
: I enjoyed the camaraderie between Peter and
: Richard. Good art (most of the time) and
: some enjoyable fight scenes.
:
: The Bad: Captain America's shield can cut
: Nova's arm off? Yeah, right. And what's with
: Evil Cap being team spokesman all of the
: sudden? Captain Marvel is there in the
: background, not saying a word. Sure, maybe
: he's the most affected by the injury of the
: many angled ones and is still reeling... but
: really the whole Cancerverse here seems like
: it was written by somebody who didn't
: actually read the Thanos Imperative and just
: heard about it from a friend. It didn't seem
: very... Cancervers-y. And why isn't Rocket
: Raccoon more upset by these revelations?
: Because he's still being written as 'blam!
: you're dead!' Bizarro-Rocket; the writer has
: no idea what to do with him. I have mixed
: feelings about the whole "in love with
: Gamora" thing. Obviously it doesn't
: line up with The Thanos Imperative, where he
: and Namorita are just recently reunited and
: seem pretty excited about it. But I always
: did like Richard and Gamora as a couple, and
: it certainly adds some depth to Peter and
: Gamora's relationship now.
:
: Conclusion: After 3 months of being excited
: to buy comics again, we're back to no more
: Richard Rider, at least for a while. But
: it's dumb to keep calling this revelation
: "the final fate of Richard Rider",
: given the ending. To paraphrase Morgan
: Grimes, "His body turned into energy?!
: Of course he's alive!" Between that
: (now cannon) ending, the lingering threads
: of what happened to Namorita, and Robbie and
: the rest of the depowered but
: very-much-alive Nova Corps, and the bits and
: pieces floating throughout the Marvel
: universe (Rider's helmet in the new Nova
: series, Rhomann Dey's role in the GOTG movie
: and the character's enduring popularity),
: it's just a matter of time before Nova Prime
: is back in his own universe. And hopefully
: shaking things up in multiple ongoing Marvel
: Cosmic titles (plus maybe one of his own, to
: boot? We can dream).
:
: Until then, I'm happy to have 3 more comic
: books to add to my Nova collection. When
: they finally bring Richard Rider back *for
: real*, I'll be more than happy to add Sam
: Alexander's trade-paperbacks to that
: collection as well.
