It really smacks of "We really want you to assume Rider is dead and shut up about it but we are not stupid enough to really, actually kill him because we don't know if we'll need him".
I'd rather he not be mentioned that some half-assed attempt at implying he is dead.

: I had wondered about this as well.
:
: Here's another option..in the arc w/ Abadox
: ..recall he claimed to have s helmet he
: found from the cancerverse. It was a prime
: helmet and implied to be Rich's. I think
: Abadox even promised it to Sam. It seemed
: pretty important and got a semi splash page.
:
: When everything went down in that
: arc..somehow the helmet got lost in the
: shuffle and was never discussed or shown
: again. It really killed me as some weak
: sauce writing.

:
: Was it ever covered where Sam got the
: centurion helmet he gave Rider's parents?
:
: What I recall is:
:
: - We last saw RR in the Cancerverse where
: nothing dies.
: - The Black Vortex showed a dessicated
: centurion corpse presumed to be RR.
: - Sam gives RRs parents the helmet.
:
: All of this implying death but... Was there
: something else I missed in some issue of
: something somewhere that positively
: confirmed this?

: I completely agree 1000%!!!
:
: Extremely frustrating that Star-Lord, Drax
: and Thanos all came back and, as was
: mentioned, making Rich's sacrifice
: pointless.
:
: And you'd think those members of the
: Avengers who knew Rich would talk to Sam
: about him and at least ask for more details
: on what happened to him. Especially Steve
: Rogers and Tony Stark who knew and respected
: Rich after he became Nova Prime.
:
: We saw a little bit of that with Spider-Man
: and Sam but it could, and should, be a
: bigger issue (at least at first until they
: got used to Sam).
:
: And it could be used as a solid sub-plot of
: Sam trying to live up to Rich's legacy. The
: New Warriors should have done that in its
: latest incarnation (but, to be fair, the
: series wasn't given a long enough run to
: really do it).

: My biggest beef is that Rider's death
: doesn't
: even have any remote influence on the
: characters he was so close with or
: Earth...within the books literally no one
: cares...
:
: Star-Lord is such a jovial mess of a
: character in the comics right now...its
: tragic.
