Everybody like to think what they are reading is somehow important within the framework of the universe. The story needs to matter.
When comic companys take the past and say it "doesnt matter". They tell you following a book and being a core fan is not something they want.
Its easy to see why...tons of Marvel creators these days are guys who didnt read Marvel comics till their late 20s and 30s, mostly when they got a job for them.

: Rich or no Rich what bugged me about Sam's run
: was that it just forgets pretty much the
: entire Nova history. I know you can't
: burden the new readers with tons of back
: issue baggage, but about midway through
: Sam's last run when I quit I felt like the
: only thing they cared to use was the name,
: the rocket boosting and the idea of being a
: space cop. It made me feel like I wasn't
: really reading a Nova book.
:
: I think there is a balance of grabbing new
: readers and pleasing old readers. A book
: having an established history is not a bad
: thing in a new readers eye. All middle age
: and younger Marvel fans up to this point
: jumped on in the middle somewhere. There
: was a certain excitement you got from
: starting the book in the middle of the
: action.
:
: I think it's a big crime that they got rid
: of editor's notes (or at least I rarely see
: it anymore). That allowed for the sense of
: a rich long history without leaving the new
: guy out of the reference or create the need
: to forced character dialogue to explain
: references. I feel some of this ignoring of
: established history is a product of the way
: the comic book page has evolved
: unfortunately. At least they standardized a
: recap page. That was a great idea.

: Been a while since I've posted here last, so
: hello everyone.
:
: It really does suck that Rich is essentially
: no more. However, the idea of resetting the
: character is growing on me....as long as it
: is done well.
:
: Eventually, (hopefully) Sam will turn into
: the bada$$ we saw Rich become in
: Annihilation. He is learning and growing as
: an Avenger. I think Marvel likes the
: character, but wanted to go a different
: route. Just giving it a chance bc I love
: Nova... he just needs to be done right.
:
: It seems as though Marvel likes the
: character and wants it to do well... New
: Series with is dad, IG, Nova on Disney's
: Spiderman, my question is why don't they
: incorporate him more into their extremely
: popular mobile gaming? They have a ton of
: mobile games and he is currently available
: in 1 of them. Not a huge issue, but if they
: really want to put him out there, wouldn't
: you expect him to get some face time?

: Had a chance to flip through it recently.
: Yeah, Ssm Alexander is The Human
: Rocket"...that's Marvel big slap in the
: face of Richard Rider fans. That's how I am
: taking and interpreting this new series. Has
: Marvel ever given Miles Morales the
: "Your Friendly Neighborhood
: Spider-Man", or "The Amazing
: Spider-Man" monikers?
: I was never going to buy or pay money for
: this issue but taking Rider's "Human
: Rocket" title and giving it to Sam like
: its no big deal just gets a very bad vibe
: from me. Sorry, but even if this is Marvel's
: attempt to steer the Sam character in a
: better light with a brand new #1, I and many
: other Classic Nova fans may never truly
: accept the current character that
: conveniently calls himself "Nova".
: Not while Marvel downplays cosmic events
: like Annihilation like it was no big deal,
: and continues belittle many Rider fans in
: subtle and not-so subtle ways.

: I know this is off your topic but it's on
: top
: with Issue 1,
:
: I really enjoyed reading this issue. It gave
: me the same vibe from when I read the 1st
: issues from Classic Nova Vol 1.
:
: The way Sam interacted with his class mates
: reminded me of Rich's interactions with
: Bernie and Caps.

: So some of my speculations have been
: confirmed.
: - The voice in the last two panels, either
: Worldmind is back or he built another
: computer. Maybe Jesse might be (last)
: Xandarian, possibly from Engineer caste or
: Nova Corps' expectations for its members to
: maintain their equipment.
: - Either Sam's helmet is allowing him to get
: less sleep or he might be part alien with
: "space physiology" (maybe Kaelynn
: is too young to properly show up). Note that
: only Kaelynn and Sam are able to use the
: helmet and possibly Nova force sliver
: (depends how much of ordinary Xandarians are
: exposed to Worldmind's energy) might play a
: role.
: Well, I kinda make this thread on whether my
: theories are becoming true.
