I don't know that this is fair.
Abnett and Lanning weren't exactly known for creating great comics before they took over Marvel Cosmic. Remember Force Works? Or Death's Head 2? Not terrible by any standard but not exactly stellar either.
Chen was only a little better having done a run on Iron Man didn't make many waves either way (though I thought it was good).
The point I'm trying to make is I'd prefer a team with raw talent and something to prove over established talent who feel like their style is the draw (Bendis).
Yes, established talent can draw more sales. But the DnA era wasn't cancelled for sales reasons. I remain convinced a good Nova series can sell well and from what I've seen I think this team COULD produce a good Nova series. So I'm hopeful
: I think it is safe to check it out. Really, we
: wanted RR back and if that is the case, i'll
: give this a shot.TL very few of us thought
: Sam would not be involed in this book at
: such an early stage. SInce it was announced
: in said "dark back room" it was
: touted as a RR and Sam book.
: I need promo art. I need interviews. I need
: more to say for sure that this is crap. I'm
: not saying your a fool for thinking that
: way...but I'm just not there yet, despite
: the insanity of crap all around Marvel these
: I made the point awhile back that, despite
: how screwed over we've been, to some extent
: we need to be flexible. Whether that means
: putting Sam in the book or being open to
: something that may be a new take...I just
: don't want to be like those ROM fans who
: literally before issue # 1 hit the stands ,
: hated the new IDW book simply becuase of
: minor nuances of ROM's look.
: I dont want to be the sereotype of
: "never satisfied fan"
: That being said Marvel needs to get their
: act together. We can argue about it or not
: but this book is already doomed with such a
: lower end creative team. That's so huge
: right now....and this won't be enough to
: generate sales whoever the hell the book is
: Sums up most of my thoughts.

: Wait and see isn't necessary for anyone
: attention. The bait and switch has been
: telegraphed, a comedy writer has been
: assigned, and the solicit says it's all
: about more silly juvenile Looney-Tune-like
: misadventures of "banned acronym."
: Continue the boycott and let's drive this
: "banned acronym" trash into
: cancellation before Issue #10.

: I don't think we're going to get a
: "straight-forward" Nova series
: this time. It might turn out to be very
: experimental - esp if Classified turns out
: to be Rich - or something else!
: I'm still in the "wait and see
: camp" but I do think considering the
: calibre of the writer assigned its unlikely
: we'll get an Annihilation style book = those
: days are sadly far behind now.
: I very much expect however those folks at
: Cosmic Book News will consider this a
: diaster waiting to happen without even
: bothering to see how the first few issues
: develop or even when we get some actual
: bona-fide info on what the actual direction
: will be. Oh - wait - they already have
: turned up at NMB and done exactly that. How
: predictable! And now they'll scuttle back to
: CBN and report how sarcastic this comment
: Either way I think this series may well make
: or break the whole Nova concept once and for
: all - cause in the end whatever new series
: comes along - be it feature Rich or Sam it
: will never satisfy every Nova fan's
: expectations of what a "perfect"
: Nova comic is.
: Of course when it comes to fan produced Nova
: - that's a different ball game... I have a
: little announcement on Friday that may
: interest some!

: Looks like it. Too bad. This whole era of
: Marvel is a total waste. I wonder sometimes
: what the TPTB at Marvel are still doing
: there, it's obvious at this point that they
: pretty much hate what they're doing and
: comics and the fans in general. Why prolong
: the pain, quit and let someone who cares
: take over.
: revious Message--
: Like I said, bait and switch. This isn't a
: book about Rich. It's yet ANOTHER
: re-launch/re-boot of the failed, deplorable,
: "banned acronym" experiment - this
: time from a comedy writer. Marvel is really
: plumbing the depths this time. Now they're
: trying to cross Deadpool with "banned
: acronym" and the result will be even
: more disgusting and absurd than "banned
: acronym's" books have been thus far. I
: really hope that this is a true bait and
: switch and Rich is just left
: "dead" until "banned
: acronym," Brevoort, Alonso, Bendis, and
: Loeb are just bad memories - and a new crop
: of leaders/writers come to Marvel who will
: bring back a quality Nova product rather
: than this "banned acronym" trash.
: All true fans of Rich - continue the boycott
: and let's make sure this 3rd "banned
: acronym" re-launch makes it to fewer
: than the 11 issues it made it to this time.
