Doug mentioned earlier at another post that was right on and very correct about the biggest reason why there is a great dislike for the Sam Alexander character. The way Marvel just simply, quickly, and easily disregarded Richard Rider after building him up for 4 solid years(from Annihilation: Prologue to Nova Vol.4)only to create a new younger similar character and call also call him "Nova" when in all logic and reason points out that the Black Novas are not really real "Novas" at all. They were imposters at the very core who had a genuine dislike for the then-current "Gold Domes" who were supposedly seen as "arrogant", "vain", etc. The Black Super Novas were a watchdog group that illegally accessed the Worldmind and stole Nova Force power. Xandar and WM never approved creation of any such secret branch of the Nova Corps nor allowed any such group to tap into WM and the NF for any other use other than official Xandarian Nova Corps use. Of course, the creative team of the new upcoming series could always retcon this into current continuity. Allowing one child tween, barely a teen, to be the "successor" of the proud Xandarian Nova Corps who have never in their history recruited "child soldier" for active duty combat? I know this is all fantasy and Disney is the new owner and all but wow. I understand that we may never really go back to the epic DnA and Giffen treatment that made Nova an A-List level character and so far from interviews the new creators seem to at least acknowledge and be aware of what made Annihilation-Era Rich so awesome, why 90s NW/Nova Vol.2 era Rich was too little too late, and why Larsen's Vol.3 (which made me a choose Nova Rich as my favorite all-time superhero)70s Marvel/Wolfman era was a step backwards in the wrong direction. A few years too late. I personally see Larsen's "Nova: The Human Rocket" Rich flipping Marvel Burgers Era as a sort of "Superman Returns"(where Singer tried to bring back the Donner era Superman into modern times) meets The Greatest American Hero: it was a fun series but Rich was supposed to be beyond that whole bumbling rookie noob Earth-bound hero song and dance routine already.
Loveness and Perez seem to be heading off in the right direction with Rich from what they say. Its good to know they have spent more time and research with Rich. I'm sure they have read and are fully aware of our concerns, ideas, and theories. It even sounds like they will be using some of our ideas or at least incorporate what we have bounced around in Nova threads. They know he is such a beloved Cosmic Marvel character for many long-time readers. He's become a favorite to new readers who want a return just as much as the hard-corps fanbase. There are some newssites other than CBN who are just not Sam Alexander fans. There are also new fans who are just not into the "successor Nova". That is always great to hear about when some news sites(other than CBN) and even new fans dislike Sam Alexander!
Even though Marvel has not even mentioned the 40th Anniversary of Nova, its good to see that some news sites have done so.

: I think everyone has their own take on what
: will happen or how Rich should be when he
: returns. Marvel should know coming into this
: new rendition of Nova that they will be on a
: very short lease to produce a quality book.
: I wouldn' t put it past them if they don't
: and RR fans drop the book, they say
: "see, even with Rich the book still
: isn't selling. Well soon enough we'll see if
: we're being duped or if Marvel can at least
: figure out maybe they brought Sam into the
: picture entirely the wrong way!

: I find it interesting that they
: cherry-picked only the negative things in
: the article.
:
: Like saying the old Rich was
: "gone" without also mentioning
: that they are planning on exploring him from
: a PTSD-style angle.
:
: Let's be honest, though. Nothing less than
: a resurrection of Richard Rider exactly as
: he was before entering the Cancerverse
: brought back somehow by the utter and total
: death of Sam Alexander would ever make these
: people happy.
:
: I think we have excellent news. They can
: sit and grumble all they want. I'll be
: reading what Richard Rider is up to next.

: While most comic sites seem to have a good
: attitude towards the new Nova series - with
: a certain degree of optimism for the new
: team and at least a idea of giving it a
: chance as many fans seem to be willing to
: do. One site chooses to go the other way -
: so here's what Cosmic Book News has to say!
: As you'll know I have little regard for CBN
: at the best of times and they don't like NMB
: - so read at your peril! Do you agree or
: disagree! Post your thoughts here without
: fear of being spammed!
