As long as we are examining our roots we shouldn't allow the Uaddan to escape our investigation. Gail Sawyer Mitchell '59 asked in an email yesterday, and I didn't have a good answer. Dana had tried to cover the bases at the last reunion that this animal was found in the southern mountains in Libya ...but the word Uaddan....hmmmm... it is a sheep, has horns, looks like what we know as Big Horn. What else do we know? Billy Butcher did you see any in your trip to Libya a year or so ago? Ghazi, are
you listening?
Pat Rice and Myrna Gary among others worked on the early yearbooks and knew that the Oea title was chosen because of the early connection to the name for Tripoli.
So how did the Uaddan come about as the mascot? The early WHS('53) folks didn't recognize the word Uaddan. DOES SOMEONE REMEMBER? Coach Pansino, do you know?
Since we are such good researchers...let's see what we know. Ernie if OEA was a beer, did you have a connection for Uaddan?
As Mike Myers would say in the old Sat Night Live skit ..."Talk among yourselves."
Let's have some fun. xoxo Kathie
