We have a hull #12 Yankee, after reseating deck fittings (chain plates, stanchions, sail track-replaced with new sailtrack, installed windless, in addition to many other repairs) and thru bolts we are moving on to fiberglass repairs. Of most concern is cracking in the sloping areas of the fiberglass sole at side of the head and at the base of hanging locker. The crack at the base of the hanging locker is 1 foot long and full thickness. We would like to repair it from the underside, and restore to original appearance. We are considering backing the area with a dense "expanding foam" (for structure)in addition to some minor patching in visible areas. We may overlay with carpet. We took up the teak and holly marine plywood sole, due to difficulty standing on the slick sloped areas, and neet for repairs to fiberglass sole. Are there any suggestions for supporting the weak-weakened fiberglass sole? Has anyone used dense "expanding foam"? Further more, we are looking for information on cleaning out sludge in bottom of diesel tank? We have tried several ideas, unsuccessfully.
