Posted by Bob Boynton on 6/19/2003, 12:33 pm, in reply to "Teak & Holly Sole" I did it with a teak plywood with black caulking strips down it so it looked like decking. The mistake I made is I cut the plywood out in the same pattern as the non-skid. This worked ok except dirt collects where the plywood is not (in the cormers and such. I roughed up the non-skid with a grinder but did not totally grid it down flat. I then mixed some epoxy with micro-balloons until it was pretty thick and then spread a layer of it on the fiberglass. I then laid the plywood down, drilled some holes and put temparary fasteners in to hold it pretty tight. Cleaned up my mess and when the epoxy cured pulled out the fasteners drilled a 1/4" hole where the fastener were and plugged them with teak bungs. This was about 15 years ago and no problems since. --Previous Message--

Randy,
: I have hull#79 (Pearl) with the dinette
: interior arrangement & have been
: considering adding a teak & holly
: sole. I was wondering if anyone had
: advice for me. e.g. Does the 'waffle'
: texture of the existing fiberglass need to
: be ground smooth first? Is this a
: reasonable do-it-yourself project? Is
: plywood teak & holly the way to go?
: What problems might I encounter? etc...
