Posted by Bill on 5/30/2004, 10:53 am, in reply to "interior modifications (sazzall ready)" I was also wondering what the removal of the lower 1/3 of the forward bulkhead would give you. Are you going to give up the head for the old oaken bucket. Gee, if you could pull that whole forward port bulkhead out you could get a pipeberth to port and to starboard and have some great storage beneath them. You could then put the "old oaken bucket" or a conventional head up in the "v". Great racing arrangment but questionable where cruising with the two couples is concerned. I cruised a Cal 28 and it came apart , fracturing the glass along the forward bulkhead and along the turn of the bilge forward. It didn't sink but I had to keep pumpng for ten minutes or so an hour. The problem was that the boat pounded when coming off of tradewind waves. I have not experienced pounding on my boat but have not had it in tradewind conditions. Just because of my experience with the Cal boat I would give serious consideration to adding longitudinal stringers if I removed that lower 1/3rd. Sometimes it's hard to make a good thing better but I sure do love to sit around thinkings of ways to do it. Have fun! bill

: I'm thinking of opening up my interior in the

: What I'm thinking about doing is removing the

: cutting away the fibreglass under the

: I currently have an insert for the forepeak

: I've done lots of modifications to the boat

Bob,
Just sitting here thinking about the bulkheads and began to wonder if the main(structural?) bulkhead is really aft of the mast. Looking at the set of drawers starboard of the mast I would have to think that they were not structural, whereas the forward bulkhead goes all the way across. Might this be more structural?
