HIN Number

My Yankee 30 is hull# 79. I had a Power Squadron Vessel Safety Check last weekend & the examiner couldn't find the HIN (Hull Identification Number) on the transom. Is there a HIN number somewhere else or was this boat manufactured before HIN numbers were required? Any ideas?
