Posted by Steve The stay does sometimes hang up the genoa for a few seconds when I tack, but it has a quick release lever so if I was racing or concerned I could take it off for light or normal conditions. I have only put the sail on this stay a couple of times and that was to check the sail and sheeting arrangements so I would know how if it was ever needed. This is usually not an issue here in So. Cal.

On Ione there is a backing plate placed just forward of the hatch to tak the load of the baby stay. The plate is not all tha large but the size of the storm sails that are flown from this stay are around 75 sq ft and 45 sq ft.
