Posted by Sam Shober My fuel tank is under the cockpit. One battery is under the forward dinette setee, in a separate compartment to port of the engine. A second battery connection (which I've not had time to hook up, but do plan to) is under the starboard berth. Sam --Previous Message--

On my 72 MKII the Starboard box is the icebox, insulated and converted to a fridge. It works fine and has a teak shelf, and is huge. It takes about 3 bags of ice (or more) to really cool it down. I've concluded that the port box was intended for dry storage, which works fine for me. None of this is overly convenient, but if I want convenience, I stay home

: I'm starting to have some respect for the
: Atomic 4. When I spun it up (without
: starting it), the compression was
: 60-70-120-80. I don't believe the 120
: reading..I think the gauge is off. After a
: shot of Marvel's Mystery Oil in each
: cylinder, and resting for a couple of days,
: I started the engine and ran it for about 15
: seconds. After shutdown I rechecked the
: compression and found all cylinders to be
: with 2 pounds.
:
: Now my question: Where do you folks mount
: the batteries? I want to install 2 group
: 31's. There's only two places that seem to
: make sense...under the aft dinette settee,
: or aft of the companion way steps. There are
: two shelves there, which would reinforcing,
: but a nice fit for group 31 battery boxes.
: Any thoughts?
:
: I plan to mount new AC and DC power panels
: above the dinette...where are yours located?
: Does this location work ok?
:
: My fuel tank is in the V-berth...is this an
: owner mod? I think under the cockpit is a
: better location...any thoughts?
:
: Like other posters...the iceboxes are a
: mystery to me. The port one requires leaning
: over the stove to get something from
: it...doesn't seem too practical. But I can't
: think of a better use for the space. I am
: thinking of moving the stove to a spot
: forward of the sink. This wipes out two
: berths I know, but sure would provide a
: better gallley. If I do this, then maybe a
: proper nav station in the old stove location
: would work, as well as being a better spot
: for the new power panels. Now the old icebox
: becomes a large pencil holder..
:
: Any and all thoughts and comments welcome.
