Some of the boats have a fiberglass headliner, which is difficult to work with and get under. Other boats, like mine have a vinyl headliner with foam backing that provides easier access, but requires restapling if you remove sections of it. I think it would be unsightly to have the raw fiberglass exposed - even painted. Richard Cox had a new headliner sewn for his boat, which includes zippers for access to fittings. That sounds like a good solution to me.
