Trent, Thanks much for your reply. As it turns out as I was applying the glass I saw that the same problem would most likely occur as you described, not to mention that it was my first glassing experience and a real mess that I didn't want to live with. So I ended up cutting West System Epoxy with Silica and then will continue this weeked building it up with epoxy with fairing compound, than coating with Interprotect 2000E and VC 17 over the entire hull. When the joint shines through next hall-out I will use Polysulfide as you recommend. Thanks much.
I am still trying to decide on the toerail rebuild. There is nothing there now, and would prefer to bring it back to original teak. It looks as though the entire toerail was removed and stainless bolts and nuts were reinstalled. There is a 1/2" lip exposing the core of the hull when looking at the edge. Can anyone draw me a quick sketch of the end view of the toerail, covering rabbeted over the 1/2" cover over the edge of the hull and then coming toward the center of the boat allowing the bolts to clamp the whole piece down. Close up photos would be really helpful.'
Thanks for any responses
: You may want to not even bother with using
: cloth on this joint. More often than not
: the joint will shift slightly when you put
: the boat back in the water, This is normal,
: nothing to worry about but it will almost
: certainly crack the cloth glass job that you
: worked hard to install. I would go with the
: caulk.

: Well, I bought "The Dog House"
: Hull
: #104. She's been sailing on Lake Ontario.
: I'd like to find out the former names so I
: can make sure when I rename her I can
: address all previous incarnations during the
: renaming ceremony. I opened up the keel to
: hull connection to address the hollow areas.
: I plan to fill and fair, but am wondering
: if I should use glass clothe to make a
: perfectly smooth transition? My local
: boatyard suggested that I use LifeCaulk
: Polysulfide at the joint to allow for
: expansion differences between the lead keel
: and the fiberglass above. I'm wondering if I
: should use glass cloth and resin to make a
: more permanent structural seal there.
: Any help would be appreciated!
