Posted by Norm To sun up: I mounted a sea water strainer and the heat exchanger on a custom bracket, which lives in the setee to port of the engine. I had to make an adaptor plate to extend the shift lever cable mount...it was short by about two inches. The stove was ripped out, and a new, large battery box was made. Above the (old) stove. where a sliding cupboard was located, is now the home of a hinged power panel with Blue Sea DC and AC breaker panels, plus the battery switch, disconnect, etc. Pic on request. Behind that, there is a sub-panel upon which is mounted the huge DC bus strips, plus smaller terminal strips, from which all lights, engine stuff, etc home in on. I plan to install a "nav" table (read junk drawer) above the battery box. Now if I could just figure out how to fix the totally corroded spreader tips....anyone done that? Well, after a lot of head-scratching, (thanks for all the advice...
) I bit the bullet and commited to *my* perspective of the way things should be, right or wrong.
: I'm starting to have some respect for the
: Atomic 4. When I spun it up (without
: starting it), the compression was
: 60-70-120-80. I don't believe the 120
: reading..I think the gauge is off. After a
: shot of Marvel's Mystery Oil in each
: cylinder, and resting for a couple of days,
: I started the engine and ran it for about 15
: seconds. After shutdown I rechecked the
: compression and found all cylinders to be
: with 2 pounds.
:
: Now my question: Where do you folks mount
: the batteries? I want to install 2 group
: 31's. There's only two places that seem to
: make sense...under the aft dinette settee,
: or aft of the companion way steps. There are
: two shelves there, which would reinforcing,
: but a nice fit for group 31 battery boxes.
: Any thoughts?
:
: I plan to mount new AC and DC power panels
: above the dinette...where are yours located?
: Does this location work ok?
:
: My fuel tank is in the V-berth...is this an
: owner mod? I think under the cockpit is a
: better location...any thoughts?
:
: Like other posters...the iceboxes are a
: mystery to me. The port one requires leaning
: over the stove to get something from
: it...doesn't seem too practical. But I can't
: think of a better use for the space. I am
: thinking of moving the stove to a spot
: forward of the sink. This wipes out two
: berths I know, but sure would provide a
: better gallley. If I do this, then maybe a
: proper nav station in the old stove location
: would work, as well as being a better spot
: for the new power panels. Now the old icebox
: becomes a large pencil holder..
:
: Any and all thoughts and comments welcome.
