Hi Norm,
I could be off-base here but I feel you are not understanding how the process of anchoring works, esp. on older boats that don't have the "trap door" in deck forward for the anchor. Before you buy anything or modify your boat I suggest you go to a used bookstore with a large marine section and find older books by Donald Street, Eric Hiscock, Earl Hinz, etc. They will show you the traditional methods of anchoring. Then find some knowledgable people down on the dock (with lots of actual experience) with boats of your vintage, without the trap doors, and ask them. If you could get a chance to go out with someone else and practice anchoring so you could actually see the process it would be the best thing. It is not complicated but there are some tricks and some dangers. Its much easier to understand with someone on their boat where you can point and wave arms, etc. rather than over the internet. Get some basic understanding first then try back here on the website for more specific info and how it can work on a Y30.

: Hi Lance,
: Yep, I have the bulkhead door in the "V
: berth compartment". I guess I expected
: a forward hatch or something so as to deploy
: the anchor without going below..if that
: makes any sense.

: Hi Norm,
: The boats I've seen do have a locker door on
: the bulkhead forward opening to a
: substantial chain locker area. Does your
: boat not have a door? Is there a bulkhead??
: Seems odd!

: Please scroll down to "odds and

: Not sure why I didn't notice it before, but
: there is no home for the anchor rode, to say
: nothing of an anchor. Is there a hatch
: leading to the space forward of the V-berth
: on some Yankee 30's? Is that the chain
: locker?
:
: Thanks, Norm
