Lemon Jefferson's Wartime Blues

I've been having trouble trying to figure out a few of the lyrics to Wartime Blues. Like "...If I could shine like a headlight on some train, I'd shine my light and...?..." And "...I'm going to the river walking up and down I don't find...?... I'm going to jump overboard and drown." Any idea what he might be saying there? Thanks.
