Posted by tomw on February 9, 2004, 7:27 pm, in reply to "Re: Great idea..." ...so,if I visit your msg board and see a post regarding lyrics for, say Piney Woods Money Mama, I click on that and I can view general discussion about the song lyrics, plus, you'll have posted there a link for your take on the lyrics? I really like the idea of a place to post, discuss and ask questions about the many obscure lyrics found in much of the music we listen to/play...the priority would be to make it 'user friendly' for navigation within your site ... I don't think the idea is found on any of the 'early blues' type boards I read regularly...keep us posted on progress... --Previous Message--

: Yes, of course there would be opportunity for
: discussing the expressions. The only thing
: I'm not sure about is where to put the
: discussions. They could be linked to the
: page with the lyrics, or they could be here
: on the Message Board. I'm leaning towards

: Thanks alot.

: See recent CD Blind Lemon Jefferson:
: "Long Lonesome Blues: Lemon's Texts
: Revealed" from Arbiter Records , on
: which I provided some suggestions on the
: lyrics. Here's what I hear for those two
: parts: If I could shine my light like a
: headlight on
: some train
: I would shine my light in Colorado Springs
: I'm going to the river, gonna walk it up and
: down
: If I don't find ??? (no idea on this part)
: What do people think of this idea I've been
: thinking about? I'd like to put on my
: website a section containing my take on the
: lyrics of alot of blues from the 1920s and
: 1930s. It wouldn't be done in slavish
: chronological order, but perhaps I'd post a
: combination of what I'm most interested in
: and some of what people request. So often
: these lyrics either misunderstood or not
: understood at all.

: I've been having trouble trying to figure
: out
: a few of the lyrics to Wartime Blues. Like
: "...If I could shine like a headlight on
: some train, I'd shine my light
: and...?..." And "...I'm going to
: the river walking up and down I don't
: find...?... I'm going to jump overboard and
: drown." Any idea what he might be saying
: there? Thanks.
