Posted by fb on February 11, 2006, 7:09 am, in reply to "BB Fuller help" It sounds like most of the verses are loosely 12-bar in construction with the exception of the second verse, which repeats the change to the IV chord and takes on a 16-bar kind of construction. He also shortens some of the phrases to just two beats - often just before the change to the V chord (more on that in a minute...) and just before the end of the verse. He doesn't ever actually articulate a B7 (V) chord in this song. Instead, he plays the B note at the 2nd fret of the A string (walking up to it from the open sting), but as part of an E chord, not a B or B7. Then he plays the following sequence of notes: G - open 3rd string He plays this riff in just about every verse. It's worth listening to this more closely, since it's technically pretty simple, but very cool sounding, and would sound rather hokey if you subbed a B7 for it. Other parts of the song sound pretty straightforward, but I thought this part was particularly interesting. Makes it sound like he's playing some kind of funky V chord, but it's just the I - neat! You're right, this song is in E, capoed to maybe the 2nd or 3rd fret (my guitars are all over the place realtive to concert pitch right now, but BBF sounds tuned high to me).
Gsharp - 1st fret srd string
E - open 1st string
Csharp - 2nd fret 3rd string
