Posted by Ari Eisinger on March 3, 2006, 8:20 pm, in reply to "Josh White" I'm sorry to say that I doubt that I'll be publishing anything on Josh White. "Jesus Gonna Make Up My Dying Bed" is stellar, as are "Good Gal " and "I Don't Intend To Die In Egypt Land". But overall, Josh White's solo recordings don't send me enough to make me want to do a video or book on him. If, at some point, I do publish some of my arrangements, my arrangement of Jesus Gonna Make Up My Dying Bed will probably be one of them. At this point I'm still concentrating on documenting the playing of my heroes on the early blues recordings, but it's great to know that there's interest in my own arrangements, too.

Thanks for your request. I'm glad you like that song so much, and that you pursued it to its source.

: I have been mesmerized by your recording of
: Josh White's "Jesus Gonna Make Up My
: Dying Bed" ever since I got your
: latest CD. I found a CD of the original and
: have also been listeneing to that a lot and
: to other early Josh White songs. He was a
: GREAT early (prewar) Blues player, and a
: GREAT singer. I even found a partial
: transcription, of the first instrumental
: break, in an old, out of print Stefan
: Grossman book, but it's not much help to me.
:
: I think there may be enough early material
: to do a book/CD or DVD lesson, on early Josh
: White, and YOU are the man to do it. What
: do you say? Would you, at least, publish
: your arrangement of "Dying Bed",
: so I can learn to play and sing it?
