I am heading down that way on October 4th, 2006, for the Blues festival. This will be my 3rd year going back to Helena. And, I plan to make it a yearly trip. Not only for the music, but the people, the food, the whole feeling about the Delta. So much history...I buy cd's at Bubba's store and bring them home, look at photos and listen to the music, and I am almost right there. I hope to go at a time when the festival is not going, so i can soak up everything I can.....it is truely an experience......billy t

: PPS:
: Helena, Arkansas is also a great stop --
: although it's not Mississippi, it IS the
: Delta, and it is a very historic blues town.
:
: Stop by Cherry St., where you will find
: Morris Gist's music store -- Mr. Gist was
: Sonny Boy Williamson's LANDLORD!, and has
: lots of neat stories.
:
: Also check out Bubba's record store on the
: corner -- he gives out free bumper stickers.
:
: But the most important stop is the Delta
: Cultural Center, and KFFA radio, where the
: legendary program King Biscuit Time
: broadcasts from (1360 AM at 12:15 every
: weekday). 'Sunshine' Sonny Payne has been
: the host since 1953, and one of the coolest
: people you will ever meet in this world.
: Sonny is one of our national treasures. He
: knew Muddy, Sonny Boy, and all the post-War
: greats, and he treats everyone the same,
: whether they're blues royalty, or fans who
: walk in the front door, or obscure
: performers like me.
:
: Man, I wish I was on Cherry St. right now.
:
: HAVE FUN!
