Sorry for the delay in responding.
I sometimes use fingerpicks and sometimes don't, depending on the guitar and style I'm playing. When I play Blind Boy Fuller songs on a National, for example, I always use fingerpicks. For slow Blind Blake tunes, I always use bare fingers (including both some flesh and some nail). Most of my playing these days is done without picks.
Also, I sometimes find I can actually play faster with picks than without. I think this is because I started out using picks, and still haven't gotten as used to playing without them as with them.
