Try Dropped D tuning, Key of D. The verse just goes back and forth between D and A7. For the little instrumental break between verses, he goes to an unusual D6--fourth fret third string, third fret second string, fifth fret first string. Alternate from the open sixth string all the way up to the third string, going in the treble between the second and first strings, then bend the second string at the sixth fret. I think you will find it all there.
