Posted by Gordy Bushaw on June 6, 2002, 3:21 pm John teaches what seem to me to be very accurate versions the Wilkens songs. Left hand fingerings are pretty easy, and should be easily manageable by an advanced beginner. Some of the right hand timing and strums are more difficult, but John teaches them very carefully and clearly. I've enjoyed the tape immensely--it's a wonderful selection of songs, and I can't imagine them being presented more competently. Don't be put off by the comments about a lack of enthusiasm or lack of fire from John. He's a pretty low-key guy, but he knows the music and the guitar inside-out, and clearly loves both. Out of the modest selection of instructional tapes I've tried, these are by far my favorites.
I've viewed all three videos, but have worked extensively only with John's Robert Wilkens video, so I'll confine my observations to that one.
