waxwing, thanks, what you said about Document is absolutely on the money...I have many of their releases and see that Ma Rainy's version of Mt Jack is offered on a disc. I guess my question now becomes, is that song the source of Gary Davis' Throwing Up My Hands?? Guess I may have to buy the Ma R. CD to find out... ;-)
: Hey, Tom. Go to Document Records (
: http://www.document-records.co.uk ). You
: will find the complete recordings (extant)
: of Gertrude Ma Rainey from '23 to '28.
: In Vol 3 1925 - 1926 You will find take 1
: and take 3 of Mountain Jack Blues.
: Document Records is a tremendous resource
: of both recordings and lyrics. They
: deserve to be supported by the blues
: community for the work that they do in
: preserving and restoring some of the most
: obscure artists and recordings of the
: blues. They are, without question, one of
: the major publishers of blues lyric
: transcriptions whose copyrights are often
: infringed upon as was noted by Ari in a
: recent post Anyone who is unfamiliar with
: them should go there now. All for now.
