You should order Rev. Gary Davis Blues Guitar book from Stefan Grossman's Guitar workshop - gw 5023bk. It covers many songs, guitar styles and techniques of Reverend Gary Davis, including photos of chord shapes as gripped on the guitar by Stefan. There are transcriptions of 20 tunes including Saddle It Around, Cocaine Blues/Coco Blues, You Got The Pocket BookI Got The Key, Lost Boy In The Wilderness, Candyman, Two Step Candyman, Goin To Chattanooga, Spoonful, Mine All Troubled Blues, (Eagle Rockin Blues), Baby Let Me Lay It On You, Shes Funny That Way, Save Up Your Money, John D. Rockefeller Put The Panic On, Sally, Whered You Get Your Liquor From?, Hesitation Blues, Walkin Dog Blues, Devils Dream, Cross and Evil Woman Blues, Im Throwin Up My Hands, Death Dont Have No Mercy, Whistlin Blues.

: : I love the Rev. and am trying to play his
: material but it seems he frequently uses
: chord substitutions, i.e., non-1st
: position chords (and not just barred 1st
: position chord forms either). An example
: is "I'll Be Allright Someday".
: You look at his chord progressions and it
: seems like simplicity itself (C, G, F,
: etc.) but he's often not simply doing
: standard chord forms. Does anybody have
: any info or know any source that talks
: about Davis' use of chords? Thanks much.
