I don't undrstand how you write your analysis either
I took this "Salty Dog" on MJ Hurt double Vanguard live album and I think (John Miller will correct if I'm wrong)John Hurt plays
E position (I don't remeber if tuned up or uses a capo).
Chord chart is E F# B7 E (two bars of each chord)

: Naturally, I screwed it up a little. I hope
: you can get what I was saying there: the
: "or"s of course are not part of
: the chords, the "X"s should be
: smaller, and the "02" belongs
: over the last two chords.

: Can someone help with the chord progression

: this one? I hear C, F, something, F?

: I am not sure I understand your method of
: analysis, Jon, but John Hurt played
: "Salty Dog" out of the G
: position, standard tuning, On the CD
: "Avalon Blues", he is generally
: tuned a semitone high. Progression is
: generally E7 out of a C7 shape, A out of
: an F shape, D7 out of a C7 shape and G out
: of an F shape. The A often backs up into
: the E and returns as does the G to D7.
: When he repeats the phrase "Salty
: Dog" he goes back and forth between
: E7 and A add 9 (F shape with little finger
: added at 7th fret of the first string).
: Have fun with it.
: John
