Perpertual Blues Machine Playing tips

I just been learing to play Perpertual blues machine by KEB MO. I am having trouble playing the shuffle beginning on the F#m7 chord leading to the B7. Somehow my playing and singing goes through the window. I have nailed the rest of the song. Any ideas how i can get round this learning curve. I can finger the chords and move freely from one to the other but somehow the picking wrecks havoc. Help.
