Hi Sharon,
I can't speak to Broonzy's version of "Going Down The Road Feeling Bad", because I've never heard it, but the version of "In the Evening" that I have is played out of the same barred (or wrapped thumb) G position as is the version of "Trouble In Mind" that was discussed on this page several months ago. The progression is G|G|G|G|C|C|G|G|D7|E7-D7|G|D
The C chord is a barre of the top four strings at the fifth fret. The D7 is like a C7 moved up two frets. The E7 is like the D7 moved up two frets, but leaves the B string open. Good luck.
