In Greece it's the same too. At least for one year after a family member's death, we don't celebrate. I won't celebrate Christmas of New Year's Eve, neither my dad's name day or mine. But If I had a little child and it was her or his birthday, I would sure do. Go with the feeling! Your dad would love his grandson's birthday party
