Seeking info on Dena Preston / Dena Golden / Dena Rogers
Posted by Peter Rogers on 11/16/2015, 2:36 pm
Dena Merl Preston was an only child (1922-2000). She wed Dale Golden when he enlisted in the military during WWII and I believe she returned to Ohio or Illinois while Dale was at war. Dale and the Rogers brothers were good friends and the Rogers brothers joined the military at the same time. It is my belief that Dale and the Rogers brothers had a pact to take care of Dena should Dale die. Dale was killed in action. Dena came back to Kansas. The first Rogers brother to come home was Emil Rogers, due to a wound he received during the Normandy invasion. It is also my belief that Emil Rogers and Dena became with child out of wedlock. Upon birth of that child, an arranged marriage took place between Emil Rogers and Edna Kleyman, the child was born in Colorado with Edna as the mother and they moved to Washington State. Dena Golden then married Chester Roy Rogers and died without bearing any other children. Dena Rogers was active in the local Methodist church. The Preston family seemed to be pretty big socialites (originally from Colorado) and in a small religious town in the 1940s, it would not be too far fetched to protect a family name in the event of an unwed birth. Emil and Edna had 4 children together and they raised Dena's son as their own. Dena's son is Randall R. Rogers and I am Randall's son. I discovered the first clue about this relationship and war story in Emil's discharge stating he was married to Edna and had one child with another. Emil was not discharged from the U.S. Army for a couple years do to rehabilitation. Should anyone have any information about the Preston, Rogers, Kleyman family, particularly anyone who may have personally known Dena Preston, please contact me. I have asked a family member about this story and it appears the plan was to keep this secret and take it to the grave. The family member I asked declined to confirm this story but said they were not denying it either. I am not out to hurt anyone. I love everyone in my family, whether they may be blood or not. My father died in the summer of 1989 and I do not believe he knew who his mother is. Dena's family line seems to have died with her as an only child but it has not. I am looking into this for my brother, myself, my mom, and in death - my father. I believe shortly before Emil's death, Dena, Chester, my great-grandmother, and some other family relatives came to visit us in Silverdale, WA. I believe my great-grandmother was one of a couple who arranged the marriage to cover up truth and she arranged for Dena to see her son and grandchildren before my great-grandmother died. To me, it is a great story of love and sacrifice and war. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Other than a few postings about Dena and her family visiting friends in Kansas from Colorado and some history with her marriage and death with Chester Rogers, Dena seems to be a bit of a ghost. I would love to talk to someone who knew her, whether it be family or socially within the community. Also, if there are any family members who would like to contact me, feel free to do so.
