Posted by Vicky My husband used to sell mobile phones and services for a living, so I know a lot about this... You could buy a phone here, but honestly, it would be much cheaper to get one in the States and use it here. What you'll need is a model that is GSM "triband" 900/1800/1900 Mhz or "quad-band" 800/900/1800/1900 Mhz ... as long as it has that 1800 Mhz component, you're fine. It must also be "unlocked" to be able to work with any provider. As for providers, IMHO they're pretty much all the same as far as customer service and quality go... it really depends on what your needs are. Shop around, ask questions, and be sure that you can get adequate coverage wherever you are (even in a major city like Sydney, not all providers cover all areas). One major difference you'll notice (aside from paying for outgoing calls only) is that you get a certain amount of credit rather than a certain number of minutes. --Previous Message--

Hi,
: Hi! My husband and I are moving to Sydney and
: are considering all of the cell phone
: options. Any suggestions on this topic?
: Should we get an international phone here?
: Get a phone from a local provider there (and
: if so, any suggestions for a good company)?
