The Dept of Immigration assesses criteria for granting renewal of PR visa every five years. Having one does not give anyone the right to have it re-newed because factors such as ties to Australia need to be fulfilled such as length of time in residence in Australia, employment and property ties, family ties etc. --Previous Message--

Hi,
: Hello – I was wondering if anyone has any
: ideas about the following: I lived in
: Australia for about four years and applied
: for a PR visa during my last year in the
: country. The visa was approved and I
: completed the process, but I had moved back
: to the US at that point. I have the PR visa
: in my passport and returned to Australia for
: a short stay so that it would be activated.
: I think I have about two years left on this
: visa but am now living in the US. Is it
: possible for the visa to be renewed if I am
: outside Australia? Are there any
: requirements that need to be met so that it
: can be renewed? or will I end up losing the
: visa if I do not move back before it
: expires? Or is this visa not valid because
: I have been outside of the country? Just
: wondering if anyone else was ever in this
: situation. Thanks for any ideas. I was
: hoping to come back some day, but time moves
: very fast.
