We had our mail forwarded by USPS to a friend in the same city - they will do it for up to a year. Our friends gathered a pile and sent mail to us in a large envelope. They pitched the junk mail and via email/phone we could tell them what was important or not.
It is a free service in the US unlike here where you pay to have your mail forwarded.
