Hi Becky,
We took our oldest son back to the States for a visit when he was 10 months old. It was fine - he slept most of the way. (actually slept a lot better than we did!)
Definitely agree with the advice to bring a dummy for takeoff/landing, and book the bassinet seats on the plane. As well as a supply of nappies and formula/bottles if you're bottle-feeding. We found the flight attendants were happy to help with anything, so don't be afraid to ask if you need any help.
