We are heading back for a visit in Sept. with our son, who will be 9mths at the time. I was told that there are a total of 10 bassinets on the flight, 747, and they are allocated on the day of flight.(QANTAS) I was also told that the chance of all bassinets being full was highly unlikely, and that IF it did that give it to the youngest first...chances are you have the trump card, but I am confident that you will have the VIP spot 
Happy travels and keep us posted on how it all goes.
