My name is Christine Darcas and I'm an American expat living in Melbourne. My novel titled DANCING BACKWARDS IN HIGH HEELS has recently been published here by Hachette. Because the story touches so much on the experience of an American woman who moves to Australia, I'm tryng to spread the word of its existence to anyone who might be interested in interactions between the American and Australian cultures.
DANCING BACKWARDS IN HIGH HEELS follows the story of Madeleine Hutchinson who, newly arrived in Australia from America, is struggling to cope with a flagging marriage and two children while adjusting to a country that's surprisingly different from her own. When she joins a Latin American dance class, she rediscovers the dancer she was in her youth and starts reclaiming her identity and sense of femininity. But an awakening of this magnitude doesn't happen without upheaval. Maddy faces choices that threaten her marriage and everything she holds dear.
The book (which is women's commerical fiction) has received strong reviews in Australian Women's Weekly, New Idea and Australian Country Style. It has nationwide distribution so is theoretically available in most major bookstores.
