Hi April,
He could start kindergarten here in January.
We are just ending a 2 year expat assignment and we had the same concerns. We have twins with April birthdays and because the school year is different here they repeated part of a grade here. So, when we go back we will put them in a grade below. This is very common for expats to do and from the many educators I have spoken with, it usually does your child good to be older.
Please feel free to email me directly with any specific questions.
I grew up in Appleton, Wisconsin and my husband is from Green Bay.

: We are looking at moving to Sydney in October
: or November and I am trying to figure out
: what grade my son should be going into in
: Sydney. He will be turning 6 in April and
: in Wisconsin he will be starting all day 5
: year old kindergarten in September. My
: bigger concern is returning to the states in
: 3 years I don't want him to struggle on the
: return so I would rather push him on the
: front end. What are children expected to
: know going into 1st grade as far as reading
: level, spelling, writing & math?
:
: Thank you.
