Your cell phone will not likely work in Sydney, as neither mine nor my husband's did. None of our visitors from the US have been able to use their cells while here, either. You will need to cancel your plan in the US and sign up for one here. I was able to get a mobile here on my 3rd day in Sydney, you will just need proof that you have moved here and are not here on holidays (i.e. your visa type) and a local address. Hope this helps!
