Hey there Janine,
I think it cost around US$200 and it was immediate. No reams of paper here, just an instant email to verify the visa has been approved. Its a 12 month work visa. As an American I can live in Australia and travel for up to six months...but I can't work. So, I needed the visa. In all actuality, I wanted to work in London for a very long time but unfortunately the immigration system changed and the US is not part of the work scheme for youth. Hence why I started thinking about options...and I'd always thought of Australia but never thought it would happen so fast.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

: Yes, I am very surprised! I thought all
: Australian visas (for US citizens) consisted
: of reams of paper, with lengthy approval
: times. May I ask how much you paid for this
: work visa; did you apply at an Australian
: consulate or on the internet thru
: www.immi.gov.au? I thought the only Aussie
: visa with instant approval was a short term
: visitor visa.

: Hello everyone,
:
: Living in Australia has been a lifelong
: dream for me and this year my New Year's
: resolution was to stop dreaming and start
: living. As a Holiday gift, I bought myself
: the Australian work visa and received
: notification instantaneously that I had been
: approved (can provide visa number upon
: request). I'm moving to Sydney at the
: beginning of March and I'm currently looking
: for job opportunities. Originally I'm from
: Miami, Florida, and I'm hoping to experience
: Australian culture.

:
: My degree in Psychology, which I completed
: in under three years, prepared me to deal
: well with people and understand ways of
: communication cross culturally. Directly
: after graduation I decided the best path for
: me would be Public Relations, and I'm so
: glad I did. I've had the privilege of
: working in two of the largest global Public
: Relations firms, Edelman and Weber
: Shandwick. While working at these firms,
: I've represented some of the most recognized
: brands in the world, among them General
: Motors, The United States Army, Nortel,
: Avaya, UPS and Energizer.
