Wanted to share this tip-
I have just booked tickets back to the States in June on the Qantas 'Kids fly Free' promotion many of you may have seen - it's pretty good, be sure to jump on this if you are thinking of a trip back home this (northern hemisphere) summer. My husband and I are flying for $1,000 round trip to SFO and the kids are paying just $350 taxes. Haven't seen a deal like this since we moved here 6 years ago.
Not sure why they want to fill their planes up with our screaming kids but I'll just chalk this one up to a bizarre consequence of the economic downturn. (By the way every time I've flown back to the states with children it's always gone really well and haven't medicated or anything!)
HERE'S A TIP - if you have an infant under 2, YOU CAN STILL GET A FREE SEAT FOR THE BABY rather than have them on your lap. What you have to do, and I was actually told to do this by Qantas themselves, is in the internet booking, put them in the booking as a child age 2 - 12, then fudge their birthdate in the passenger details, then call them later to update the booking so the birthdate matches the baby's passport. Honestly. Or just call them and do it over the phone but there was a charge to do that.
Had to pass on the news, see you on the plane!
