Hi Barb
Yep I'm a bloke, but we have a 15 month old-so i feel somewhat qualified on your questions
My wife and I enrolled in pre-natal classes at our local hospital where not only did we get fantastic support and exercises, but more importantly we were introduced to 12 other couples also experiencing being parents for the first time.(when you book your hospital they should have all the info there for you) It was a great group of diverse people-pomeys, aussies, yanks, Italians from airline pilots to paper photographers! The classes are long since finished, but we meet every month on a Sunday and catchup-pretty amazing watching all of these kids grow. Another thing aussie hospitals do really well, is that once your beautiful baby arrives, they will refer you to an early childhood health center. Again a fantastic way of meeting new mums with similar challenges to raising your little one. We have made some wonderful friends through this group and get together all the time(as families and seperately)-the mums go out for dinner, the dads meet for beer and the kids grow up together!
Our little one has gone off to day care for the first time today...so what am I doing...sitting here emailing about childcare and looking at pictures of him
So basically, the first thing to do is decide which hospital you want to be associated with for the birth of your child and then go from there. Lots of resources there and our hospital even had the yoga and pilates for pregnancy classes there on site with a physiotherapist.
ALL THE BEST
Geoff
