Hi Kate,
You may not need to get sponsored. I have seen an influx of young Americans coming here on work visas that allow them to search for a job when they arrive, which HAS to be easier than doing it from the US. Here is a link which will help you:

It says the visa only costs $180, and you can stay for a year. You can work for the whole time but not for more than 6 months for any one employer. Obviously it is not as good as being sponsored, but that would be rare for a recent grad in a global recession anyway. This visa will allow you to try it out, get your foot in the door with a few places and then hopefully get someone to sponsor you after they have seen you in action!
