Hi Stephanie,
welcome to Australia. Yes it is daunting when you first come here, and it takes approximately 3 years to settle in and get use to things, once you do, you will be glad you never bought that ticket. I can't believe you have done so much in such a short time. I don't want to scare you, but there are so many more obstacles ahead but honestly, it does get better and things just fall into place. I use to complain endlessly about life in NY, but when we got here I was ready to also buy that ticket, we were one week away from making that decision, then the light at the end of the tunnel appeared. I know it's hard with all the kids, I have two myself. If you need any help with anything feel free to email me and I'll do what I can to help you. I live at Queen's Park/North Randwick area and actually am very familiar with where your husband grew up. Not sure where you will be living, if this is close enough for you feel free to email me.

: Hello. I would love to hear some other
: opinions or advice. We just moved here from
: Tampa in March. My husband and oldest son
: came in Jan. so they could start
: school/work. That was the first issue. My
: son was not able to start school due to visa
: issues, etc. That issue has been taken care
: of and we have encountered a variety of
: other road blocks. The main issue is buying
: a house. We have the funds approved but
: there has been so much red tape to get
: through we cannot seem to close on our
: mortgage. The wonderful man who we are
: buying the house from will not let us rent
: what will soon be our own house even though
: it is vacant. We have moved 3 times with 4
: children, 2 of them are just babies from
: hotel rooms to short stay apartments while
: awaiting our house closing. The delay is no
: fault of our own. The house has been vacant
: since 2006 and the guy selling the house
: still does not have the proper paperwork to
: complete the closing. It is breaking my
: heart not to be able to give my kids and
: myself (selfishly) a home, stability,
: consistency, etc. My husband is Australian,
: grew up on Bourke Street but moved away
: years ago. I have screamed, cried, and
: everything else I can think of to do at this
: point. On a personal level, I love the
: Australian people ( I married one). While
: trying to do anything from buying a house to
: joining a gym I have experienced nothing but
: frustration and I am currently looking for
: the next one way flight home. Any advice
: would be appreciated.
