Hi Stephanie
My, you have done quite a bit in the short time you have been here! I think that also makes it hard during the transition period. I went through something similar - new family, new stepson - and the challenges around that, on top of moving here, on top of not working, planning a wedding, no immediate family...etc. But Christine is right it will get better. Yes there are challenges but the great thing is, there are lots of Americans in Sydney to help you. Just hang in there and once you get through it - you'll be happy that you did. Remember to take time for yourself. It will take a little bit of time to adjust - but this is natural and many people have experienced it. I'm happy to catch up with you as well if you want to talk. Also Karen suggested contacting someone who helps expats....you can also try Rebecca Wells of Clear Horizon Coaching on rebecca@clearhorizoncoaching.com she also helps expats acclimate to living in Sydney. In any case, know that there are people around who know what you are going through and are happy to help you and support you.

: Hello. I would love to hear some other
: opinions or advice. We just moved here from
: Tampa in March. My husband and oldest son
: came in Jan. so they could start
: school/work. That was the first issue. My
: son was not able to start school due to visa
: issues, etc. That issue has been taken care
: of and we have encountered a variety of
: other road blocks. The main issue is buying
: a house. We have the funds approved but
: there has been so much red tape to get
: through we cannot seem to close on our
: mortgage. The wonderful man who we are
: buying the house from will not let us rent
: what will soon be our own house even though
: it is vacant. We have moved 3 times with 4
: children, 2 of them are just babies from
: hotel rooms to short stay apartments while
: awaiting our house closing. The delay is no
: fault of our own. The house has been vacant
: since 2006 and the guy selling the house
: still does not have the proper paperwork to
: complete the closing. It is breaking my
: heart not to be able to give my kids and
: myself (selfishly) a home, stability,
: consistency, etc. My husband is Australian,
: grew up on Bourke Street but moved away
: years ago. I have screamed, cried, and
: everything else I can think of to do at this
: point. On a personal level, I love the
: Australian people ( I married one). While
: trying to do anything from buying a house to
: joining a gym I have experienced nothing but
: frustration and I am currently looking for
: the next one way flight home. Any advice
: would be appreciated.
